What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine. It involves painlessly inserting needles into areas of the body which encourage the body to circulate oxygen and blood more efficiently. Within the blood, the body will release and circulate chemicals which can decrease pain and inflammation as well as regulate organ, tissue and cellular function.
How does acupuncture work? The stimulation of these areas of the body called acupuncture points affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It also triggers mast cells to release their own array of chemicals which in turn tell the brain to release pain relieving, anti-inflammatory and internal organ regulating chemicals.
How does acupuncture feel? Acupuncture is painless or relatively painless. Usually patients feel a sensation of warmth which is a sign that the body’s blood circulation has increased. Patients often feel very relaxed during and after their treatment.
How many treatments will I need? The severity, intensity and duration of your condition will determine how many treatments are necessary. For the majority of health problems, 10 – 20 treatments will be appropriate. Rest assured that your condition will be treated in a prompt and professional manner.
Safety? All needles are of the highest quality, sterile and disposable. Side effects are extremely rare and never cause harm to the patient.
Payment and Insurance? You can pay as you go, however most patients enroll in one of the discounted program plans. If you will be using insurance, the appropriate forms for your insurance company will be provided.
